Özlem Altın
A continuation of Özlem Altın's research into the relational fabric between photography, archive, and body, Behind The Veil (Inner Experience) is part of a series of works created in 2022 that mark Özlem Altın's approach to embodied knowledge as a means of thinking about connectivity on a cosmic scale. Here, she arranges images of hands, teeth, and shells with other image fragments, simultaneously isolating and connecting them by outlining the image with ink and paint. Many of the hands and arms reappear almost ritualistically in earlier works, reminding the viewer of the plasticity of time. Here, the tangible is felt through the received knowledge of a sacred relic. It is synonymous with being touched through time. The blue oil paint imbues the work with a supernatural notion of destiny, while the arrangement of isolated images shares a common ground with physical forms of language, resembling the form of a hieroglyph.
