We are proud to announce Özlem Altın receiver of the Hannah-Höch-Förderpreis, awarded every two years by the Cultural Administration of the Berlin Senate to support the artistic developpment of Berlin based women artists.
The award exhibition will be held at the Berlinische Galerie in the summer of 2024, accompanied by a publication.
Altın explores the complex relations between photography, archives and the body with deep empathy. She understands the body as a vehicle of expression and a storehouse of knowledge: a “place of transfer like an interface to the outside world”. By collaging and mounting photographic images in a dynamic process, Altın fixes memories within a living present. She constructs these multilayered constellations from her own and found photographs. By overpainting and rearranging these, she generates new connections which resist straightforward readings, allowing for hybridity and ambivalence. The exhibition at the Berlinische Galerie will be a walkthrough installation, Altın’s own version of “speculative cartography”.
