Lux Miranda
Series of twelve rugs thought as one set in which all the elements are connected and respond to one another. This series marks a significant change in Lux’s Miranda practice who started to use colourful wools as a result of a trip to Mexico where she has been in contact with local magical practices which are a part of everyday life in both urban and rural areas. This experience gave the artist the impetus to merge her practice of drawing and sculpture by naturally triggering the use of colour that had blocked her until then.
Following a personal experiment Lux Miranda started to think about how relationships can affect one another in different ways and on how to find a balance. In Bouddhisme, all human beings are considered sick unlike in the occidental world where everyone tries to put words on deviant behaviours. The artist became aware of Western condescension, which consists, among other things, of looking down on everything they cannot observe or explain. In order to take some distance with this occidental social construct she started studying the laws of Karma through readings such as The word of the buddha by Nyantiloka and La pratique du zen by Taisen deshimaru. She also took introductory courses in Buddhist thought by the venerable Robina Courtin and Mathieu Ricard while assiduously practising Ashtanga Yoga.
As a result of mediation and observation of nature and the sun, the artist fragmented her energy as her feelings were fragmented to create independent yet related artworks. Each piece can be seen as Tibetan codified images named Thangkas, creating a composition made to guide oneself toward a chosen precise idea. The artworks contain an energy that can be felt by observing them and invite us to experience sensations and to take a mental journey.
Coming from a punk queer background, the artist started to question established social norms in order to deconstruct the gender and more broadly deconstruct hierarchical relationships within society. This series is overall about acceptance and an invitation to humbleness and resilience — ability to overcome traumatic shocks —in order to find personal peace. By deconstructing reality and experienced situations the artist aims to understand differences of sensitivity in between human beings leading us to self-examination.
